Elements of Landscape Design

This article on landscaping your yard is with the do-it-yourself in mind, writing to realize with simple principles and essential elements to achieve the best possible results.

After several years of experience in the nursery and landscape field, you get to the point, perhaps by intuition, if you’re on the road called to give an estimate, you say so, this could look like that landscaping project completed and how much the cost, just by looking at the house. It is such a routine, but each house has its own character, and I would say to the adventure, the personality.

This could be because of the color, size, architecture and location of the house to the rugged terrain, and many other factors.

It was not always the case, of course. When I think of my landscape projects first, several years ago, I remember very badly to do my best to create and design the best landscaping plan can get the job and build my reputation as a professional landscaper. It was not an easy task. There are several principles and elements of landscape design that you should keep in mind.

The element of form, the shape of the “line” in designing the plan, the size of the landscape with respect to the size of the plot, and many other principles and elements that you consider when designing a landscape need to keep the project can be used.

However, the purpose of this article is not really a definition of landscaping and applications techincs give, but to help homeowners, their own project, in this case, to create specially designed for the front of the house.

Focusing on the front of the house is essential to pay attention to every little detail, because it’s part of your landscape that will determine the character of your property, and the first impression for visitors. Just think of a painting, where the front garden is your canvas, you’re the artist, and you must decide the “color”. This is another important element in your landscape project to be a success! The colors!

Another important element in designing a landscaping project is the “lines” in the design of planting surfaces. I think playing for a nice aesthetic design, the lines are important. The lines are finally finished work that awsome or “so and so.”

Personally, I liked never use too many lines in the design of the planting space directly next to the front of the house. Only if I have no choice, as if there is a passage from the front door and turn left or right side of the house at 90 degrees in a straight line, not too far from the wall of the house. There were always best if the sidewalk was very close to the entrance to the street to the mailbox, for example.

It has always worked and looked better than I was with curved lines, from the side of the house, where there is usually an AC unit to the left or right of the house. It does not really matter. I hope you can imagine the design as we go through the description of the shape of space for planting.

Draw a curved line in such a way as to hide the AC unit comes with a few larger shrubs, with a thin curved line on the corner of the house and the extension of the line as a loop to give you the opportunity to plant trees to sort of frame of the house with a few plantations of emphasis on both the far corners of the house.

Then, from the main ring, at the corner, I have a curve (so that the space for other flowering shrubs and perennials, bedding plants and ornamental grasses such as certain plants of emphasis) drawn to the front door onto the sidewalk. Right here, next to the sidewalk on both sides of, but I planted a small tree, bush or other high topiary in order to shape the landscape to give it some character and hints of new . The front right side of the house perfectly reflect the left front.

Now between the two corners and large topiary trees or plants near the sidewalk, you can plant some low maintenance shrubs, about 16 to 24 cm from the wall and about 2-3 feet away, such as planting foundation. This can be Compacta Hollies, Korean boxwood, Indian Hawthorne, or other low-maintenance shrubs that you like.

Just before this line of shrubs that can name the “foundation planting” is, in staggered system, so that the back row should be visible on the wall, another slow-growing shrubs such as yaupon, helleri, Soft Touch, or other shrubs that you like. Directly across from the second row of shrubs, such as a border of ornamental plants such as grass or colored green Liriope, Aztec grass, etc., appealing for a couple of beautiful colors.

For some unique colors of green shrubs, bedding plants, a couple of your choice, and as they are in season, you can always change the colors you want. This should be a fairly unique character to your home.

But wait, before me jump too quickly for planting faze! Assuming that you support all of these on a sheet of paper, you pretty much have the layout might look like your project is completed. At least you have a pretty good idea.

Now we want to emphasize our project in the field and see how it will get better. Let’s start with the side of the house where the AC unit or on the right or left side of the house. Or, if the unit is on the back, then you need not worry for now. Only if and when you start working on your landscaping yard.

So we’re going to take a hose and put it in a nice curved line extending a little further from home, then returned with him, come from every corner of the house to the front corner, and form the loop , we were talking about. Make the loop big enough to be a tree, and three low-growing shrubs planted to a group directly in front to accommodate the tree. I hope you get the picture.

Then go into the tube in a nice curve (again) the extension of the line just a bit away from the house to be described to place the shrubs and the rest of the plant to accommodate. Go all the way on the sidewalk, and at the end of the line to do a little to the street to make room for your tree or topiary focus next.

Make available this side of the house from different angles, and adjust the line until you see what you want. It’s not really much to see, but you’ll have a pretty good idea. If you are satisfied with the layout, select the line by a landscape can jet you can find at the hardware store, and do exactly the same on the other side of the house.

Now is the time to measure and see how many plants you need to go. Hold because of the distance between plants and then calculate how much you can receive, not to make too tight, not too bare. There should be a good balance, be pleasant for the viewer. Remember, your work of art, and you should be very proud!

The hard part is done! Now we want to get their hands dirty, and even the party begin!

Thus, the beautiful layout of our plan is ready, we want to clean the floor of rocks and debris, and if necessary, we want changes, such as cow dung, several pockets, some good fertilizer and spread them on top to add, and until it in the dirt. Rake it good, and now you can buy plants from your favorite garden center.

Water the plants until the plants time to start. The fun part is just about to begin!

Place the plants in their position, and look at the picture again, from different angles. Move the plants as often as you wish, provided they are still in pots until you finish what your landscape will be satisfied.

Once you have them all in place, let there and just pull away, dig one at a time, and the hole and plant your trees and shrubs, one after the other. Dig the hole large enough for the roots have room to work.

Note: Under no circumstances, no other fertilizer in contact with roots in the planting time! This is very important! Sometimes in our zeal, so that the plants grow faster, then they should contact us fertilizer to the roots, the roots will burn and the plants will die! The best way to fertilize with, is what we call fertilize “top dress” with a slow release fertilizer. Let Mother Nature do the work, and we should not use force anything on them.

Once you have planted all the plants, it is time to apply mulch, about 2 to 3 inches deep, and should ad a phenomenal beauty and cleanliness of your landscape project!

Make a nice little bed of flowers around your mailbox, so mulch, and strategic investments to a focus even more of some beautiful ornamental trees, in the rest of your front yard.

Occurs after planting, the fountain and make sure you water slowly, so that the water penetrates to the roots. Only a pinch at the top of the earth is not enough. Remember, your new plants just moved, and they need time to absorb into his new home. So please, make them feel welcome and at home!

Insert your bank in a nice shady spot and sit back, relax and enjoy your beautiful artwork! Look at the birds and hear the songs, and the little butterflies dancing in the sun greciously.

The value of your home has just increased dramaticaly!

You saved bunddle you in doing so, and it was fun and not too hard, right?
